Lovely Corner推介
Introduced here by a friend who had the place for a birthday party... it's on the top floor of an old building on Hollywood Road. One wouldn't have imagined that there would be a restaurant/bar here as there are no signs whatsoever, and the building is rather drab, even the lift is one of those metal mesh doors you have to open manually, and you can watch each floor go by when the lift moves. It's open from 6pm till 6am, so if you're ever tired of the perpetual kebabs or Tsui Wah after a late night out, come try this place, they have a liquor license too if you need to continue your booze spree. The place is decorated in a mystic sort of way, with paintings on the wall that are for sale.. the benches are quite low, with coffee tables rather than dining tables, except a couple of regular tables by the bar. It's more of a sit back, swig a beer and nibble on finger food sort of place. The owner Mr. Sing is a lovely man and very welcoming, and the staff are attentive. The menu is mostly in Nepalese (i think), so one might need some explaination for what each kind of food is, but Mr. Sing is very patient in answering all the questions. Some of the dishes I asked him about he just replied "no this is only for Nepalese people, you can't eat". Which was rather strange, since I don't have any particular food nocando's, but he somehow managed to explain that it's because some of the food has a rather strange taste that might nto suit the local population, or that it's eaten with the hands and therefore seem a little messy for the locals. Either way, this seems to make the dishes sound REALLY authentic and just made me more the curious. Apart from the Nepalese food, they also have chicken drumsticks and fish and chips for those who crave for comfort food after the alcohol binge. The Momo is a steamed dumpling which has a juicy filling. There are a couple of saladlooking cold dishes, mostly with beans, crunchy little dried fishes and cucumbers, which is worth a try. The samosas and onion bahjis are cooked just right, not too burnt or oily, but just crispy enough. And the onion bahjis aren't remotely similar to ones which i associate with the Tube food stalls... not round hard and tasteless, but looks like fried calamari, stringy, chewy except it's onions and not calamari. The chicken drumstick is a must try, everyone orders it when eating in or for takeaway they take the meat off the bone up till the attachment to the top, then wrap it into a ball at the top of the bone so it resembles a lollipop then fry it. No more messy around with deboning it with your own teeth or getting greasy lips and looking unladylike. They have a Himalayan soup which is slightly soup and looks like a seaweed infested lake with muddy water, i know that makes it sound disgusting, but it's actually not bad, except it takes half an hour to prepare, so order in advance. The curries are all very tasty, ask for the chicken or lamb masala, i think they don't put it on the menu either (perhaps it's just for regular customers to know about hahah). The meat is tender and the accompanying bread, which include naan and paratha (the nicer version is the latcha paratha, ask for those, it's not on the menu) is great for soaking up the sauce. There is also a roast leg of pork, dal and other dishes... There is fried rice, and also chicken noodle (which personally i don't think is very special). The lassi and the masala tea are also must tries. And of course, cold beer and other standard alcoholic beverages are available. The food is dirt cheap, most dishes ranges from $10 50... and it will definitely fill up any late night hunger pangs. You can ask them food catering services, I ordered food for 40 for a junk over the summer. And you can book the whole place out for private events.
