We came to DG Cafe for dinner on a Friday night, and the restaurant was completely empty except us. Despite that, first impressions were quite good. The decor was very nice. There's a wine bar / cellar up front with a restaurant at the back reminiscent of old English country house dining rooms. We commented that it could make a good venue for parties. Service was quite good, with the sommelier volunteering recommendations. However, when the 'fine dining' food arrived, we were not impressed. The 5course set menu at HK$498 seemed to be much better value than the rest of the menu so we opted for that. First up was the amuse bouche deep fried oyster. This was very oily and a bit too fishy for my tastes. Then there was a soup which was very strange and had long fibres of the vegetable used to make the soup (It was either leek or celery). It almost seemed unfinished, like it needed another few seconds in the blender. The quail salad was a bit tasteless and by the time we got to the salmon, we didn't expect much. The Tiramisu was also a bit sloppy. Worst of all, whilst the sommelier was showing us around the wine cellar, he successfully sold us a 'rare find' bottle of wine which was apparently great value and should be paired with 'duck confit'. We haven't tried the wine yet, but a quick check of prices showed that we paid more than 3 times the market rate a complete rip off!! We would highly recommend the restaurant bring in a new chef and also it's wine prices down. It's a shame to see such a place with charming decoration go to waste!

A friend told me that we are dining at the Jardine's Lookout Resident Club.....I thought we are actually going to Yik Sun.Not until arrived, I didn't realize there's such a hideaway place in such a residential area.Apparently, it is a french restaurant with numerous good wine to choose from.With a big crowd we have, we have engaged ourselved in a private dining room.The room is nicely furnished with timber walls, timber table, extra high ceiling....cannot really express in words how impressive and comfortable an environment it is.We have a set menu for the night which starts with a standard appertizer and I havepumpkin soup to follow.Thereafter, there's a trio of tasters and then fish with risotto as the main.Dessert is tiramisu.Food it OK, not extremely impressive but the wine is very very impressive.With a crowd of alcoholics, there are unlimited servings of wines, really good champange, white wine with lychee aroma, burgundy.......ha ha, if I am able to name any one of them, I will be an expert in wine.The restaurant will assist in the selction of wine and they are quite nice and the service is good.A point to note is the English speaking environment, non of the staff there speak a word in Chinese which makes it really exclusive.
