Very authentic Indian food in the style of a buffet appetizers, salad, soup and dessert. I bought a coupon some time ago in the hope to try authentic Indian food there are not too many restaurants serving Indian cuisine in HK. There were quite a few choices of appetizers and I like naan, samosa and dal the most. The food, especially the chutney and the spices in all the food they serve did remind me of my trip to India. Lots of veggies and many of the dishes were deepfried. However, they were cooked well and were not greasy or oily at all. I ordered one extra main dish chicken tikka a good balance of the spices.Very Indian decoration. Clean and cosy environment for a chat with friends. My meal was also of superb value. coupon was just $34. I paid an extra $23 for the main dish and service charge. This price was even cheaper than what I have to pay at the Indian fast food restaurant at Times Square. Value is still good even at original price $68 for the buffet + $30 for the main dish at the heart of Central, near Lan Kwai Fong I paid roughly same prices in India. I will go again.
Like Bon Vivant, I had higher expectations because the Habibi Cafe is so good.We tried it because of a Groupon deal.Even with the deal, it was way overpriced for the quality (flavour, presentation, quantity).Food was ok, nothing to complain about but not worth returning either.We had butter chicken, saag paneer and an eggplant dish (can't remember the name of it), rice and naan plus 2 draft and 3 bottled beers.Another thing:We had a reservation for 7, but I was a bit early.I tried to order a drink but the server said the bartender wasn't there so I couldn't order yet.He didn't come back until around 7 guess what? Too late for happy hour!I asked if they did frozen margaritas, and the server didn't know what that meant.She went back and asked the bartender, and returned with "yes, no problem frozen margaritas ok."So I ordered a frozen mango margarita, which arrived in a suspicious watery slush state with a slice of mango garnish.It tasted mostly like orange juice with a splash of alcohol, not mixed.Definitely not a margarita and no mango flavour in the drink itself either.Sent it back and stuck with beer afterwards.Bill was still nearly $500 AFTER the $240 was deducted for the Groupon.If you want Indian, I would forget Rana Raj and head to Bombay Dreams on 4F in the same building.
It didn't pare up to the expectations I had of this dining group, since I think Habibi is quite a good restaurant. The decor was nice, the orange hue reflected off from the candle light was warm and fuzzy, but unfortunately the open doors meant that the aircon escaped quicker than it was being pumped out, and the passing traffic drowned out our conversation. Why people like to eat on street level restaurants on Wyndham is beyond me sometimes. The waiter was kind enough to close the door a little when requested, but it did nothing to dampen the noise.The menu was fairly limited, with 3 salads (raita, banana chat, arabian i.e. mixed salad), a few appetizers like samosa and pakore, a selection from the tandoori oven (mostly chicken, 2 lamb dishes and a vegetable skewer), and a few recognizable mains like chicken masala, rogan josh. There was biryani rice with a choice of chicken or lamb, and naan came either as plain, kashimir (with dried nuts), garlic and butter.The poppadoms were a little soft and lacked the crunchiness, probably coz the weather was so humid, but the tamarind chutney and the mint chutney were both very nice, one sweet and thick, the other had a good spicy kick. The food came in a random order, so the raita ended up with the naan bread towards the end. The raita was particularly thick and the slithers of cucumber were there if you looked hard, but I couldn't taste much of the chili and spice, and the coriander came only as garnish on the top of the rathersmallbowl. The lamb was alright except the sauce was oily rather than a thick curry sauce. The naan was thin and limping, and there was no garlic taste to be had save for a layer of oil on top.The mixed vegetable skewers lacked flavour and we had to pile on the chutney and raita to wash it down.The samosa was pretty crusty on the outside and tasted a day old.Drinks are not cheap, but thank goodness it was happy hour and 50% off. I guess I'm not used to eating in LKF with matching prices anymore, since there are so many better places around for much better food. But it's a Groupon coupon, so it didn't hurt to try (but it still came up to $200 a head).
團購買左coupon同mother去試下印度菜. 味道ok但係d羊肉好似cook過左時間, 有d粉粉地. 鴨肉有d好似膠膠地. 環境地方ok, 夜晚去會好d. lunch time時天氣好sunny而且向大馬路. 玻璃門大開冷氣唔夠. 整個set係半自助餐型式款, 包7至8款印度d大路野. samosas, veg湯, 白飯, 印度黃豆汁, 炸菜波, 印式燒鴨肉, 3款菜salad. 一人可以選一款主菜. 4款主菜2雞2羊. . 有coupon先會去既. 無既話都唔會特別去. 可能"重慶大廈"個d會好d. 但係夏天千奇唔好去"重慶"因為好重口味架...
