最近星期一經過上環禧利街街尾的法式班戟店 Grain De Sel Creperie,恰巧,見到本週法式班戟是黑松露班戟!嘩! 實在太吸引嘞! 我跟法籍老闆講,反正,我未有 idea lunch 食什麼? 也好吧!美味與否都是一餐!即管花上數十元也值得!黑松露班戟 $65等候大約 5分鐘,等候期間,我見女店員把一塊班戟放上煎 pan,然後加入雞蛋、芝士、火腿等配料,另塗上一層黑松露醬, 把班戟摺成一個三角形,再塗上一層牛油,夾一夾,大功告成!當我返到公司打開精美的三角形紙盒,香氣即時湧出來! 切開煎至啡啡地色的班戟,入口帶煙韌,班戟邊香脆可口;四層餡料清晰可見,黑松露份量也不少,絕對交足貨! 黑松露菌味濃郁,完全提升整體味道!亦好夾味! 配上一杯自製的有機檸檬茶 (新鮮檸檬檸檬+有機茶包),健康又解膩!
店鋪雖細但有優閒感覺, 坐在門外高櫈, 剛好陽光照斜, 又可觀察路過行人, 好有外國feel.雖然是下午, 不想食鹹點, 於是選了Suzette Crepes, 是甜品類. 內餡是用了orange sauce + grand marnier, 橙醬酸酸甜甜好開胃, 反而grand marnier比較膩口, 可能太多了, 如量減少一點比較好吃. crepes底疍味夠, 有煙勒感, 少少焦是我喜歡的程度. 咖啡是cappucino, 味道一般, 要講的是那紙杯太薄太軟身, 幾乎要破爛.
I could not go to Chef Gregory's restaurant without ordering the offthemenu The Speculoos. I know I should have some savoury galette first but I could not resist this devishly yummy sweet crepe. If you have not had SPECULOOS before, ordered it and you will get addicted like me.The Complete is the most traditional flavour that Gain de Sel offers which includes ham, emmental cheese and egg. I was surprised by how crispy the galette becomes with this new recipe and from the method of cooking. It tasted totally different from the traditional galette, this version is MUCH crispier. The combining flavours of tangy ham, savoury emmental cheese and toasted egg were amazeball.The Homemade Salted Caramel was slightly disappointing as the caramel sauce was very runny and tasted rather buttery and on the sweet side. I like caramel sauce that is thicker.The price point at Gain de Sel is fair and affordable. The savoury crepes priced between HKD50 HKD90, while the sweet ones priced between HKD25 HKD50. The baguettes on the other hand are priced at HKD50. Lunch sets are also available, offering a Complete Galette or a baguette sandwich with a drink at HKD68. Yet I reckon the portion might be too tiny for men, perhaps they could introduce another lunch set which can top a sweet crepe at an additional price. If not customer might go get a chicken to fill their stomach out.
In this same spot used to be a restaurant called Chez Meli Melo. When CMM opened, it was run by a woman who had pictures of her children up all over and the atmosphere was rather warm and downhomey. Somewhat later she disappeared at least from the operations side of things; now they've given the place a makeover and renamed in Grain de Sel. There's still some continuity with its earlier incarnation, in that the sandwich I ordered came in a bag that said "Chez Meli Melo" and the baguette was identical to the one I had shortly after CMM opened.I can't say that means the sandwiches are good. The French and I have different sandwich philosophies. I have a very 'salad' conception of a sandwich: there's lots of veggies on the ones I make at home lettuce, tomatoes, onions, peppers, sprouts, avocado... The French like ham, cheese, and butter. It's just a different approach.I settled on the 'Parma Mozzarella' sandwich: "parma ham, mozzarella, tomato, basil, olive oil." At least there was tomatoes. I might've liked the sandwich, but to be honest the "basil" was really a pesto and the pesto was somehow foul tasting. My wife got the same pesto on her salad and definitely agreed with the sentiment. I'm fine with pesto, but something is wrong with this recipe or this batch somehow. Substitute a few fresh basil leaves for the pesto, and I'd probably give this a B+. As it is I could only eat about half of it.My wife got the Chef's Complete Galette, with ham, emmental, and spinach. Frozen* spinach. "The spinach basically ruined it," she said, "it's hard to assess it after that." *Did I see them taking the spinach out of the freezer? No. But if this was not frozen spinach and I can't prove otherwise it was qualitatively like frozen spinach. It had a very chopped up mealy texture and that somewhat off flavor.To be fair, I am going to give this place a frowny face. That is an accurate presentation of our gustatory experience here. But big caveat: if I had picked the ham and cheese sandwich and my wife had chosen mushrooms instead of spinach, we might have been singing the praises of this place. Maybe. But we did dislike everything we actually got.
